The Jurançon showcase
Take the ridge path through the vineyards and you'll come to the Maison des Vins du Jurançon in Lacommande. This is a shop with an exhibition and tasting room featuring a wide range of Jurançon wines (130 references), as well as some Madiran, Irouléguy and Béarn wines. And you, are you more of a dry Jurançon or a sweet Jurançon?
It was in 1986 that a group of young winegrowers realised the potential of their wines and set up an association: La Route des Vins du Jurançon. With a view to sustainable development and promoting their expertise, they subsequently created the Maison des Vins. Today, La Route des Vins du Jurançon brings together more than 60 independent winegrowers who vinify and market their own wines, as well as wine merchants.
Every year, the association organises the famous Open Day on the 2nd Sunday in December.
The Maison des Vins is located close to the Commanderie de Lacommande, to complete your visit! Built in the 12th century by Gaston IV the Crusader, this hospitable complex served as a refuge for pilgrims taking the Arles route on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela.
While you're visiting the Commanderie, take the opportunity to discover the experience (La Parenthèse( and its original fun activities for ‘a sensory stroll through the Béarn that lies dormant inside you’.
